Tom Franklin Wooten, age 88, passed away on Jan. 24, 2022, in Tallahassee, Fla. He was born Feb. 26, 1933, to Mr. and Mrs. John Franklin Wooten of Monticello, Fla. Tom was a graduate of Jefferson County High School and attended the University of Florida.
After returning from service in the United States Army, he went to work with the State of Florida. Following thirty plus years with the state, Tom retired from the Florida Department of Administration, Division of Retirement, where he served as a Bureau Chief. He was a man of faith and through the years enjoyed serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, music director and choir member at Ebenezer Baptist Church. In later years at First Baptist Church of Monticello, Tom served as a deacon and enjoyed singing in the choir. Additional special blessings for him were his men’s Sunday school class and helping prepare Wednesday family night suppers.
Tom enjoyed the outdoors, spending much of his free time hunting and fishing as well as working on his farm.
Tom is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jackie Stokley Wooten; daughter, Sherriee Wooten Kinsey (Steve), of Thomasville, Ga.; two grandchildren: Ashley K. Stubley (Robby) and Dr. Brent W. Kinsey (Alexis); a great-granddaughter, Mary Gordon Stubley; and a great-grandson on the way. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Cherrill Wooten, and his sister, Mirrorland W. Sasser.
A private graveside service was held, Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Oakfield Cemetery with Reverend Sean Vickers presiding. The family wishes to thank Tom’s incredible caregivers for their many years of compassionate service: Johnnie Ruth Hill, Peggy Watkins, Margaret Nealy, Deondra Pleas, Willis Carr, III, and Paula Conti. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Adult Choir Ministry of First Baptist Church, Monticello, or The Florida Baptist Children’s Home, Tallahassee.
