Tom Mills “Tim” Braswell, Jr. was born in 1945, in Thomasville, Georgia, to Tom Mills Braswell and Kathleen Harlow Braswell. He died on July 5, 2021, at his home in Monticello, Fla. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen Bentley Braswell, as well as his sons Keith H. Braswell and wife Michelle of Tallahassee, and W. Jason Braswell and wife Ashley of Hahira, Georgia. Grandchildren include McKenzie G. Hov and Jayce M. Braswell of Tallahassee, and Addison C. Braswell and Bentley L. Braswell of Hahira, Georgia.
Tim is also survived by his sister Carol B. Keller and husband Franklin of Crawfordville, Florida; sister-in-law Sally B. Woods and husband Allen of Hahira, Georgia; brother-in-law Wade G. Bentley of Monticello, Florida; sister-in law Carolynn Cheshire and husband Ellis Cheshire; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, at Monticello First United Methodist Church. Following the service, the family will receive friends and relatives in the FUMC Family Ministry Center for a light lunch.
Tim was a 1963 graduate of Jefferson County High School in Monticello and attended North Florida Junior College in Madison, Florida. He was a lifetime faithful member of Monticello First United Methodist Church. He was an employee of the US Postal Service for 36 years and served as Postmaster in Monticello from 1982 until his retirement in 2000. He was also a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve.
Tim’s community service included Jefferson County Jaycees, Monticello Kiwanis Club, and Monticello/Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. Other organizations were the National Association of Postmasters of the United States (NAPUS), Masons (Blue Lodge), Shriners (Marzuq Temple), and Sunny Peaches RV Club. He was a volunteer for the Eagles Wings Food Bank and was a Valor volunteer for Big Bend Hospice.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Monticello First United Methodist Church/Helping Hands Fund (325 W. Walnut St., Monticello, Florida, 32344) or Big Bend Hospice/Jefferson County Building Fund (1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, Florida, 32308).
Lifesong of Tallahassee (850-765-3190), 231 E. 6th Ave., Tallahassee, Florida, is assisting the family with arrangements.
