Tourism promoting group undergoes changes

The county’s tourism-promoting entity, the Tourist Development Council (TDC), has undergone several changes in recent months, most notably getting an amended tourist development plan and being put under the direct supervision of county staff. The plan’s amendment occurred in mid-March, when the Jefferson County Commission adopted a provision establishing different distribution levels for the so-called “bed tax” dollars that are collected from short-term lodgers in the county. The amendment, as County Attorney Heather Encinosa explained it, changed only the distribution percentages in the plan, nothing else. Currently set at three percent, the
