I walk in our community almost everyday and use the crosswalks when available to ensure my safety. I don't need a traffic light to get me across the road, but what is necessary is for drivers to stop when they see someone in the crosswalks.
It's a Florida law and I'm actually personally offended by the cars that ignore this.
Our unique community deserves to be recognized as polite and respectful to pedestrians, not a town that you need to run for your life in order to get to the other side of the road. It's such an oddity, I always wave and say thank you when someone stops.
Same goes for the County Fire Dept. You don't need a traffic light in response to an emergency.
Florida law requires traffic to stop immediately for their right of way. Yes, progress is coming with more cars, which means more revenue, but let's not leave our common sense behind, just be courteous and stop, maybe even wave back!
