The holidays often give us special opportunities to cherish family members, friends and those we love. As we use cards, gifts and gatherings to connect during this festive season, some of those we cherish may no longer be with us, and we remember and celebrate their lives in other ways.
The Big Bend Hospice Tree of Remembrance event is one opportunity to honor those loved ones during the holidays and at the same time directly support the important patient care offered by Big Bend Hospice (BBH).
BBH is displaying a large 2022 Tree of Remembrance now through Saturday, Dec. 17, at Tupelo’s Bakery and Café on West Washington Street, and it's already glimmering with gold and green bows tagged with names of cherished loved ones being remembered. A miniature tree also will be set up during Monticello's “Christmas Around the World” celebration downtown on Dec. 2. When you donate $10 to BBH, you can add a bow to one of these trees with a tag you've written for it in memory of your own loved one. Your contribution goes directly to meet the needs of patients in our community, and there's plenty of room for more bows on these trees.
“We need more bows!” says BBH Advisory Council Member Nancy Dodd. “And we need more funding for patient care services here in Jefferson County. Patient needs are many. So support our community and our patients by helping us decorate our trees. And remember those lives so deeply loved.”
“I'm happy to host the Tree of Remembrance,” says Tupelo's Owner Kim Davis. “People look for places to donate during this time of year, and this is a nice opportunity. It's a great service.”
Big Bend Hospice has been serving this community since 1983 inspiring hope by positively impacting the way our community experiences a serious illness or grief, one family at a time. If you would like information about services, call (850) 878-5310 or visit www.bigbendhospice.org.
