On Tuesday Oct. 13, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) received a call about a vehicle theft in progress. According to the caller, he was at the main parking area of the Wacissa head waters when someone stole his red Mercedes.
Deputies with the JCSO and troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle.
According to law enforcement records, an FHP trooper saw a red Mercedes turn onto Highway 27, in Jefferson County, and travel towards Leon County, occupied by a white male driver and white female passenger.
The vehicle turned off of Hwy. 27 and the occupants exited the vehicle and ran on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Daniel Boland and Joanne Hieger, both of Monticello, were arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
Daniel Boland was booked and charged with: grand theft motor vehicle, driving with suspended license, drug equipment possession, DUI, resisting/ fleeing and attempting to elude.
Joanne Hieger was booked and charged with: accessory after the fact, and drug equipment possession.
Hieger posted bail of $5,500 and was released from jail on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Boland, as of press time, still remains in the Jefferson County Jail with a $15,000 bond.
When speaking of the incident, Jefferson County Sheriff Mac McNeill stated, “I would like the thank the FHP for their hard work and diligence in quickly locating the stolen vehicle and arresting the subjects.”
