County officials recently accepted a $14,100 grant from T-Mobile that will allow for the painting of a wildlife mural on the side of one of the buildings in historic downtown Monticello.
The stated goal of the mural is ambitious. It is intended to showcase the area’s unique natural beauty and promote ecotourism and conservation awareness, while at the same time transforming the community into a tourist destination and fueling the local economy.
The building intended for the mural is the Penny Lane Emporium on the northwest corner of the circle just off North Jefferson Street, across from the courthouse.
