Volunteer fire departments to get upgraded radios

The several volunteer fire departments should henceforth be able to better communicate and coordinate their firefighting efforts with the county’s fire and ambulance departments, thanks to a recent board decision.
At the request of Fire Rescue Chief Derrick Burrus, the Jefferson County Commission recently waived the competitive procurement requirement for the purchase of additional over-the-air radios for the volunteer departments at a cost of $34,525.35.
