The local thrift store, Wag the Dog, is in desperate need of new volunteers. The store, which is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., has been unable to open most Thursday mornings due to a lack of volunteers. They need a minimum of two people to open the store, but prefer three as it makes the job go much smoother.
The minimum age for volunteers is sixteen and it can be an excellent way to get community service hours for school credit.
Though Thursday's may be their biggest need, Wag the Dog really needs volunteers for all times, as lately they have been extremely short staffed. The general working times are three-hour shifts, either from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m or 1 to 4 p.m.—though if a person wished to they could work more hours, up to all six.
They would love if someone who either has cashiering experience or is willing to learn how to be a cashier would apply, but, otherwise, the general work is something most anyone can do. The work entails light housekeeping, such as sweeping and dusting; customer service; and organizing things such as books and merchandise.
Wag the Dog is run 100 percent by volunteers and all proceeds go to the shelter run by the Humane Society, which is a no-kill shelter that gives abandoned, abused, and neglected pets a better life. Those wishing to volunteer can also apply to work at the shelter.
As the shelter and Wag the Dog are both run entirely on donations and proceeds from the store, volunteers are the backbone of the whole operation. Without volunteers, Wag the Dog can't open and the shelter can't be run. So, any help at all is appreciated. To fill out a volunteer form you can go directly to Wag the Dog and ask for one or, for more information, you can contact Edye at (850) 528-2887.
