The title of Jefferson County Watermelon Queen is a 71-year-old local tradition and serves to recognize the talents of Jefferson County's young ladies.
Annually at the Jefferson County Watermelon Festival, a new queen, junior miss queen and their court is selected. These are more than “beauty
pageants,” but a chance for young ladies to develop leadership qualities, gain public speaking experience and learn more about their beautiful county.

The Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an informational meeting about the annual pageant, the role of Watermelon Queens, and what it takes to be a constant.
This meeting will be held on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the chamber office, which can be found at 420 W. Washington St. The meeting will begin at 4 p.m.
In order to be a Watermelon Queen, young ladies must be a resident of the county and must be between the ages of 13-15 (Junior Miss) or 16-25 (Queen). Young ladies in these age ranges who are interested in being a Jefferson County Watermelon Queen, as well as their parents or guardian, are invited to this informational meeting.
