The Aucilla Christian Academy (ACA) Warriors lost an overtime heartbreaker in Valdosta, Ga., on Friday, Sept. 16, when they faced the Generals of Georgia Christian School. The Generals edged the Warriors, 19-13.
The Warriors put the first numbers on the scoreboard when Jace Grant ran the first of two touchdowns into the end-zone. The ensuing point-after-touchdown kick gave the Warriors a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Generals responded with six points of their own in the second quarter and the Warriors held a slim 7-6 edge over the Generals, going into intermission.
The third quarter was a defensive struggle as both teams were held scoreless. Then, in the fourth quarter, the Generals managed to put seven on the scoreboard, while the Warriors added six points to their total. The game was tied at 13-13 when regulation time expired. In the overtime period, which is very similar to the college overtime rules. Each team has an opportunity to score from the 20-yard line. The Generals were able to put the ball over the goal line for a touchdown during their overtime possession, while the Warriors were held scoreless in their possession.
Joshua Agner went six-for-11 passing for 108 yards, with one interception. Grant led the Warriors in rushing with 227 yards on 29 carries and two touchdowns. Grant was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the Warriors. Ethan Bass was named the Defensive Player of the Week for his 11 total tackles, including eight solo tackles and one quarterback sack.
The Warriors (2-2) will have a week off before hosting the Seahawks of Franklin County (1-3) on Friday, Sept. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., at Warrior Field.
