Welaunee Missionary Baptist Church in Lamont invites the community to a Watch Night Service on Saturday, Dec. 31, beginning at 10 p.m. The theme for the evening, “United in Christ,” is drawn from Galations 3:28, which states, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus” (KJV).
Pastor Pedro McKelvin, who has been attending Night Watch Services for more than 50 years, explains that it is a time for coming together to carry out the old and bring in the new with fellowship and prayer leading up to midnight, when the New Year begins.
“It's a testimony service honoring God for what he has brought us,” says McKelvin, “and what he has blessed us with in the past year. It's a time for commitment for the New Year for the changes that you want for your life.”
McKelvin welcomes all who want to join him and his congregation on New Year's Eve. In addition to testimonials, the service features Elder Barry G. Graham, an associate pastor at Trinity House of Praise Missionary Baptist Church, as the guest speaker.
Welaunee M.B. Church is located at 75 Avalon Side Rd. in Lamont. The Watch Night Service also will be shown live via the church's Facebook page.
