When decorating your home or adding to your Christmas spirit, be aware that there are some plants that are toxic to cats and should be avoided.
Holiday pine trees are mildly toxic for cats. The oils in pine trees can be harmful to your furry friend, which could lead to liver damage and death. Opt for a fir or spruce tree instead. Pine needles are sharp and can damage a cat’s internal organs if ingested. They can also pose a hazard to paws if stepped on. If you decide to have a real tree for your home, cover the tree stand so your cat cannot drink the water. The water inside the tree stand could contain harmful bacteria, mold and other pathogens.
