Water customers to get discount on bills due to recent cold snap

Monticello residents will get a break on a coming water bill, a recognition on the part of city officials that many people let their faucets run during the recent cold snap to avoid busted pipes. Councilman George Evans proposed the utility bill discount at the Monticello City Council meeting on Tuesday evening, Feb. 4. Evans reminded the council that it had taken similar action during an earlier cold snap. The council was amenable to the suggestion and voted unanimously to proceed with a water bill adjustment, leaving it up to the city clerk and interim city manager to work out the details and decide when and how the adjustment would be applied.
