Waukeenah Road set for resurfacing and widening

Lazaro Aleman ECB Publishing, Inc. Some four years after the Waukeenah Highway was supposed to be repaved, it appears that the roadwork will finally proceed, if in two phases. Jack Husband, of Southern Consulting Engineers, Inc., recently gave the Jefferson County Commission an update on the upgrade, which is ready to begin. Husband explained that the project had had to be downscaled from the original design because the bids received had far exceeded the budgeted amount. The grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the repaving and widening of the road is $2,618,320, whereas the bids received ranged as high as $4.6 million, Husband said. Consequently, he said, th
