At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, the Jefferson County Fire Rescue responded to a call about a brush fire that was reportedly out of control. The fire was located at the Goldberg collection site, located behind the Jefferson Recreation Park. A contractor in charge of burning hurricane debris at the site also called Chief Burrus to inform about the fire, stating that while they were burning debris in a fire pit, an ember from the fire pit had ignited a 40,000 yard pile of hurricane debris.
At the time of their response, the blaze had spread to a second large pile. Jefferson County Fire Rescue (JCFR), Monticello Volunteer Fire Department
