There are quite a few small businesses and eateries here in Jefferson County, all offering their own unique goods and services. One thing that has been missing, however, is an ice cream shop. If you wanted ice cream, you had to go to a fast food place to get it. But, that ends today!
Arctic Scoop Ice Cream will be holding their grand opening today, Friday, Feb. 5, around noon. Arctic Scoop is located at 850 N. Jefferson St. and will be run by Quinntin Bellavigna and his girlfriend, Zoe Morris. It's a project that they had started a couple of years ago but have only recently been able to fully see to fruition.
It's the next business installment on the property there, which is a plaza of buildings that now houses Mafia Pizza, the Mann's Doghouse, Arctic Scoop Ice Cream and more. They've been renovating the property for the past three years and we hoping to make it an excellent place for the whole family that provides many options.
As for Arctic Scoop, they wanted to fill that gap that Jefferson County was missing when it came to good ice cream. It was something that Monticello needed, so they stepped up to bring it. Though it was more of a natural progression than a passion project, Quinntin used to always say he wanted to be an ice cream man when he was young and referred to the constellations the Big Dipper and Little Dipper as "the big ice cream scoop and the little ice cream scoop." It's a fun story to tell, now that he really will be an ice cream man operating an ice cream shop.
Arctic Scoop will be selling all kinds of frozen treats, soft serve, hard serve, slush puppies, a variety of toppings to put on your ice cream and more. They'll also be selling cotton candy if you're looking for something sweet but not as cold. So, come hungry!
Their hours are a little loose at the moment, as they're just opening up and need to feel it out, but they'll most likely keep winter hours and be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. As the seasons shift into summer, however, they'll be open for more days and hours.
So, be sure to stop in today and try out some of the sweet treats at Arctic Scoop, the newest addition to the Monticello community!
