I frequently visit Monticello to see my family. My uncle, William Bullock, served the community in a variety of public offices, including as a member of the Board of County Commissioners. I cannot envision a meeting in which Uncle Bill would allow a representative from the FDOT to tell him what is good for his city. The pedestrian bulb outs now marring downtown are dangerous eyesores. I suspect not a single FDOT employee who lectured the City Council during its Jan. 19 meeting lives in Monticello or navigates the bulbs on a regular basis. The Council’s decision to stand mute and allow the bulbs to remain disappoints me. I have already altered my traffic pattern through the city to avoid those monstrosities.
I also found Councilman John Jones’ comments regarding the public’s driving skills insulting. Mr. Jones, I, like most of your constituents, drive just fine. Perhaps you could learn to look both ways before crossing the street during your walks.
Finally, the News’ article states it is likely the bulbs will be made more attractive in time. Uncle Bill might say putting lipstick on a pig does not change the fact that you still own a pig.
Sincerely,
Bill Duffack, Jr.
