Where do our wedding traditions come from?

The tradition of wedding ceremonies has existed for thousands of years as one of the many things we share in common with those who came in the ages before us. Many general concepts of weddings have remained the same or similar throughout time. The general idea has always been the union of two into matrimony—a religiously and legally binding agreement between the couple to remain together. Traditions from the ancient times remain, but some that characterize modern weddings, such as the white dress, are very recent. Examining the origins of some of the common wedding traditions we see in the western
