Why do elephants form a circle?
Elephants are known to be protective and caring towards their young ones. Many of us have seen internet videos where elephant mothers have snatched their calves from the jaws of crocodiles or herds have chased lions away from young elephants in the herd. Other times, elephants have been seen going bumper to bumper, facing outward in the form of a circle.
Elephants form a circle for several reasons, but primarily to provide protection. Whenever the herd senses danger for a young or injured member, they will quickly gather and form a defensive circle around the weaker or more vulnerable members of the herd.
