Will Florida see another bear hunt in 2025?

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is contemplating the authorization of another legal bear hunt this year and is asking for public input on the consideration.
In its December meeting in Lakeland, the FWC Board directed its staff to proceed with a proposal for another bear hunt, which document is expected to be ready as early as May. Part of the preparation for the report entails the staff gathering public input on the idea.
The last time that the FWC authorized a bear hunt in Florida was 10 years ago, in 2015.
Per current estimates, the state’s bear population exceeds 4,000, with the largest numbers of bears located in Cen
