On Thursday, May 14, the Wolf Creek Pet Adoption Center (of the Jefferson County Humane Society) reopened to the public after several weeks of being closed to walk-in visits.
The shelter had temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 threat, and while the shelter still offered adoptions, visits to the shelter and adoptions of cats or dogs had to be done through appointment only.
Despite these changes, when the shelter reopened on May 14, they brought good news with them – rather than seeing a harsh decline in adoptions, the shelter's reopening was also a celebration of how many animals had been adopted out during the semi-closure!
Only a few months ago, the shelter had been at capacity and had been unable to accept any new animals due to the over-packed conditions of the kennels and cat rooms.
Now, Wolf Creek Director Shirley Plessinger notes that every cat room at the center has no more than 10 cats and many of the kennels for dogs are empty, as so many animals have recently found homes of their own.
Now that Wolf Creek is officially back open to the public, anyone who is interested in learning more about volunteering at the facility, supporting the center monetarily, fostering an animal or adopting a new pet can do so by visiting them directly, at 2123 E. Washington St., just outside of Monticello.
