Black History Month is celebrated every year to recognize the contributions of Black Americans to our nation, despite a troubling history riddled with racism and oppression. It honors Black individuals from all periods of American history, from the enslaved people who were brought here in the early days of our nation, to the citizens that currently live in the U.S. today.
