Sheriff's office searches for answers
in young man's homicide

A “Cold Case” is an unsolved criminal investigation that remains open, pending the discovery of further information, evidence or suspects. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) is bringing to light their agency's cold cases in the hopes of finding those responsible for the crime.
The crime may have been forgotten by the community and it is the hopes of the JCSO that this renewed focus will “jog the memory” of someone who may have witnessed or heard information regarding this crime.
On the early morning of June 3, 2018, a young man tragically lost his life.
At around 1:46 a.m. on that Sunday morning, law enforcement and first responders were called to the Martin Luther King Center that is located just outside the Monticello city limits.
According to earlier reports, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) and Monticello Police Department (MPD) were dispatched to the scene after the 911 Communications Center received a report of shots being fired at the MLK Center.
Reportedly, a party or large event was being held at the center.
Officers with the MPD were first on the scene and discovered an individual who had been shot.
