A late-night wreck near downtown Monticello on Tuesday, May 26, involved three vehicles, but only one driver.
The report provided by the Monticello Police Department (MPD) states that at 10:35 p.m. on May 26, Anjeanette Martin, 52, of Valdosta, Ga., was traveling north in the right lane of South Jefferson Street.
As Martin approached the intersection of South Jefferson Street and East Anderson Street, her vehicle ran off the edge of the road. The report states that Martin was traveling at around 50 mph in the 35 mph zone.
Parked lawfully near the curb of the road were two vehicles, both owned by Jack Letchworth of Monticello. The two vehicles, a 1996 Nissan van and a 1997 Ford Pick-Up Truck, were parked only a short distance from the Anderson Street and Jefferson Street intersection and as Martin ran off the roadway and onto the curb, the front bumper of her 2005 KIA SUV struck the back end of the Nissan van.
The collision caused the van to be pushed forward, which resulted in the front end of the van colliding with the truck that was parked in front of it.
After the initial collision, Martin swerved back into the correct lane of travel, although she pulled off the road and stopped her vehicle on the curb near Monticello Milling.
According to the MPD report, Martin was transported to Archbold Hospital, in Thomas County, Ga., by Jefferson County EMS for possible injuries.
All three vehicles sustained fairly significant damage as a result of the wreck, especially the Nissan van as it had been stuck in between Martin's SUV and the Ford truck during the wreck.
MPD and other first responders cleared the scene and left a little after midnight at 12:04 a.m., on Wednesday, May 27.
