It is disappointing when some of our local appointed and elected officials don’t chose to hear the voices of our community and carry on with their own agenda. We are only “stuck” with the bulb outs if the voice of the community is ignored and the”same ole,”, “same ole,” occurs.. Only this time they are willing to spend $25,000 in an attempt to make a tire-eating, dangerous, pig look pretty.
Why not spend the $25K to shorten the bulb outs by two feet, re-curb it and plant low maintenance grass, the stuff that doesn’t need an irrigation system, and is used by the federal government, businesses, and homeowners alike. This would leave the walkers with their safety margin, prevent turns into oncoming traffic, save tires, and prevent the language that comes along with hitting or driving over a bulb out. A typical example of what is happening now is at the northwest corner of E. Washington and N. Cherry, where tire marks are visible on the curb and tire tracks across the middle of the bulb out.
In either case, the money comes from the same pot, the citizens. I urge you to contact the city council or City Manager (850) 342-0153, and let them know how you wish to spend that money on this project.
Ideally, the decision will reflect the thoughts and wishes of the majority who voiced their opinions in a recent poll of the local newspaper and Facebook posting.
