Young Farmers are invited to take part in a year-long series of interactive learning and networking experiences that will be offered by the Farm Foundation's Young Farmer Accelerator Program.
This program, which is offered to farmers between the ages of 20-40, is a chance to gain a deeper understanding on agriculture, agribusiness and the various government choices that impact farming.
It also allows young farmers to meet others across the country who are involved in the agriculture industry with shared goals and sights; this program will also introduce young, upcoming farmers to political leaders who influence the United States' agribusiness.
According to the Farm Foundation, participants will get to attend one or two Farm Foundation RoundTable meetings that will discuss local food, involve agriculture tours and bring together leaders across the different sectors of agribusiness for an exploratory discussion on the issues that impact our nation's food.
Program participants will also get to spend three days at a retreat with members of the USDA, United States Congress, agribusiness community and commodity trade associations. There will also be several Farm Foundation forums (available via audiocast), where presenters will examine and discuss policies, issues and opportunities in the food and agriculture business.
This exceptional opportunity will be offered, all expenses paid (travel, registration costs, hotel accommodations and program materials) to a lucky young farmer who wins the Farm Foundation's award – and nominations are currently open.
In order to be nominated for the program's award, young farmers must be within the qualifying age, be a United States citizen and should be actively involved in a farming career.
Young farmers from around the United States, with varying careers and backgrounds, will be selected in order to assemble a collection of young farmers to accurately represent a better picture on what the future of United States farming will look like.
Anyone who knows a young farmer who may be interested in this program are invited to nominate a farmer, whether they are family, friends, coworkers or community leaders.
Young farmers who are selected for this award will be required to participate in all the gatherings and events included in the program, including the January Farm Foundation RoundTable meeting, held in North Carolina; the June Farm Foundation RoundTable Meeting, held in Colorado; and the February Young Farmer Accelerator Retreat, location undetermined.
The deadline for nominations will be Friday, May 15.
