“You have been flushed.” That is the greeting that will be given to some Jefferson County locals this month along with a special porcelain decorative piece for their yard.
All in good fun and for a good cause, a toilet painted blue and decorated with a Rotary emblem, will be circulating as part of the fundraiser for the Monticello Rotary club during the month of April.
When COVID-19 changed our way of life, typical fundraising activities were not viable anymore, so to continue the good work Rotary does in the community, they decided this would be a great way to raise money. “Rotarians have always had a great sense of humor and this is a 'fun' fundraiser because of its originality and the fact that no one has to buy an over-priced fundraiser item they don’t need.” said Frank Stone, Treasurer.
Those who find a toilet at their location get a sheet of paper along with it. It explains the fundraiser and that the “Royal Throne” will be theirs to enjoy for the next 24 hours. For a cost of $20, the potty will be removed the next day; for $25 it can be passed on to a person of their choice the next day; or for $30 they can add the “Potty Protection Plan,” which means they are safe from getting the potty back during the remainder of the month.
The Rotary club kicked off this April fundraiser by delivering it to the local Kiwanis Club at their weekly meeting on April 7.
These two organizations often rival one another during local activities and both clubs have a great sense of humor.
Monticello Rotary has been active in the community for over 38 years and raises money to build handicap ramps; send children to 4-H camp; sponsor a child to attend a camp for the physically challenged; provide Thanksgiving food baskets to senior citizens; and give scholarships to local seniors graduating high school.
